VideoChannel was launched as an integral part of the global networking project [R][R][F]200X–>XP Agricola de Cologne created in 2004 for the Biennale of Electronic Art as a project environment focussed on new forms of video within the thematical context of “memory & identity”.

This was the beginning of the increasing relevance of (digital) video as the audio-visual medium, so VideoChannel is representing the basis for the following festival activities of CologneOFF – Cologne International Videoart Festival and the curatorial activities, artvideoKOELN international was intensifying.

The comprehensive video collection which was VideoChannel developping was forming also the basis of the global wide screening, as they were continuued after 2010 by nomadic festival project CologneOFF 20XX- videoart in a global context.

VideoChannel was from the beginning a platform for curatorial experimenting, the collection of curatorial contribuitions from about 20 countries give evidence of the encouraging effect of the initiatives Agricola de Cologne generating during many years. The basic ideas of VideoChannel can be found nowadays in the artvideoKOELN activities.

VideoChannel is associated with VIP-VideoChannel Interview Project, VAD Video Art Database, AND – Artists Network Database and Cinematheque, platform for interactive projects, and forms a particular collection of the Moving Images Collection @ Le Musee di-visioniste, the new museum of networked art.
